WHY IT MATTERS

Why It Matters: Medicare Wasn't Built to Cover Everything

Original Medicare pays 80% of most outpatient care, and you're responsible for the other 20% with no out-of-pocket maximum. It also doesn't include prescription drug coverage. Most people close that gap one of two ways: a Medicare Advantage plan that bundles benefits together, or a Medicare Supplement paired with a separate drug plan. Neither path is right for everyone. Networks, extra benefits, drug formularies, and costs vary widely by plan and by county, and missing an enrollment window can mean penalties that last for life. This webinar walks through both paths so you can choose with confidence..

  • • Original Medicare (Parts A & B) — Covers hospital and medical care, but you pay deductibles and 20% coinsurance with no cap. The standard 2026 Part B premium is $202.90/month, and higher incomes pay more through IRMAA.

  • Medicare Advantage (Part C) — Private plans that combine Parts A and B, usually include drug coverage, and often add dental, vision, and hearing. They include a yearly out-of-pocket maximum but typically use a provider network.

  • Part D prescription drug plans — Available standalone or built into Medicare Advantage. The 2026 structure is simpler and more protective than ever, but the formulary and pharmacy network make a big difference in your actual cost.

  • Medicare Supplements (Medigap) — An alternative to Advantage that lets you see any doctor who accepts Medicare, with predictable costs. We'll cover how Plan G, High Deductible G, and Plan N compare.
